Garden Tips – May

May is a brilliant month to get out in the garden. Are you making plans to get yours ready for the Summer? Here’s a few ideas to get you in the mood!

Plant summer bedding plants – May is the perfect time to plant summer bedding plants such as petunias, marigolds, and geraniums.

With the risk of frost now passed – sow vegetable seeds – You can start sowing vegetable seeds directly into the ground or into pots in May, including beans, peas, lettuce, and courgettes.

Mow the lawn regularly – As the weather warms up, the grass will start growing faster, so it’s important to mow the lawn regularly.

Weed the garden – Keep on top of weeds by hoeing them regularly or pulling them out by hand.

Prune spring-flowering shrubs – Once spring-flowering shrubs have finished blooming, prune them back to maintain their shape and promote new growth.

Whether you’re doing big or small jobs, maintaining a lawn and borders, or just a few planters and pots, here at Thorngrove in Gillingham we have all you need to make the most of your space. Stop by this week and speak to our friendly staff for recommendations.
